How to Resize Signature for SSC, Railway, and Bank Exams
Published on: October 2024
While photographs get most of the attention during the application process, scanned signatures are equally important. A blurry or improperly sized signature can immediately invalidate your application, as signatures are legally binding for your declaration.
Resizing a signature is notoriously difficult because the file size requirement is incredibly small—often just 10 KB to 20 KB. In this guide, we'll show you the requirements and how to resize your signature without turning it into an unreadable pixelated mess.
The Standard Signature Requirements
Whether you are applying for SSC (CGL, CHSL), DB, or Railway (RRB NTPC, ALP), the signature rules are nearly identical:
- Ink Color: Must be signed with a Black or Dark Blue ink pen. (Black is strongly preferred by SSC and Banking).
- Paper: Must be signed on a blank white paper. Do not use lined/ruled notebook paper.
- Capital Letters: Signatures in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS are strictly rejected. It must be your normal running hand signature.
- File Size: Between 10 KB and 20 KB.
- Dimensions: 4.0 cm (width) x 2.0 cm (height) or roughly 140x60 pixels.
Why is the 10KB to 20KB Limit So Hard to Hit?
Modern smartphone cameras take photos that are 3 to 5 Megabytes (MB) in size. Trying to compress a 5MB image down to 0.01MB (10KB) requires stripping out 99% of the digital data. If you use standard crop tools, the resulting image will be so blurry the exam authorities cannot read your name.
The Best Way to Crop and Resize Your Signature
Step 1: The Proper Scan
Do not just take a photo of the signature from far away with a lot of white paper around it. Bring your phone camera close and make sure the signature takes up mostly the entire frame. Use a document scanner app (like CamScanner or Adobe Scan) to convert it to a high-contrast Black & White image before saving it to your gallery.
Step 2: Upload to GovFormTools
Go to the GovFormTools Resizer and upload the cropped signature image.
Step 3: Select the Signature Preset
Choose the SSC Signature (10-20KB) option. Our tool uses smart contrast-aware compression. Instead of just blurring the image to reduce size, it reduces the color depth (since a signature only needs black and white pixels), which drastically drops the kilobytes while keeping the ink strokes sharp.
Step 4: Download and Verify
Click process and download your perfectly sized signature. Before uploading it to the exam site, open it on your phone or computer to ensure the strokes are legible.
Conclusion
Getting your signature rejected is a devastating reason to lose out on an exam attempt. By signing with a dark pen on white paper, cropping tightly, and using a dedicated compression preset like the one found on GovFormTools, you guarantee compliance with SSC and RRB standards.
